The Use and Abuse of Poetics (Live from Jerusalem - In Hebrew)
As a concept, poetics is naturally associated with poetry and literature. However, it is part of all forms of human communication and expression such as, sublime poetry, WhatsApp interactions, computer interfaces, popular songs, opinion articles and daily conversations.
In my talk, I will discuss and demonstrate poetic mechanisms and the way their understanding, interpretation, classification and usage are crucial for enjoying works of art as well as navigating the influx of information in which we live and operate.
Amos Noy is a research fellow at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and an Israeli poet. His poetry book, “Shalom la-Adon Haorev” (“Hello Mr. Crow”), received the Ministry of Culture award for a debut book. His second book of poetry is about to be published in a few months.
Amos has a B.Sc. in Mathematics, an M.Sc. in Computer Science, and a PhD from the Folklore and Folk-Culture department in the Hebrew University. His thesis was published as the book “Witnesses or Experts”.
Amos was an editor in the “Kol-Ha’ir” magazine, wrote columns in popular magazines and is a co-founder of a start-up high-tech company, holding several U.S. patents.
