העולם המערבי ניצב על שתי רגליים: הרגל העברית והרגל היוונית. לא ניתן להתחיל לתאר, קל וחומר להבין, את המערב ותרבותו ללא הרגל העברית ובמילים אחרות – הכרת סיפורו של היהודי המשפיע בעולם.  אילולי ישו, משה ודוד היו דמויות נידחות של מיתולוגיה עתיקה, שרק מתי מעט היו מכירים. ניתן למתוח קו ישיר בין ישו, וליתר דיוק דמותו כפי שנתפסה בידי אבות הכנסיה וממשיכיהם לבין תאי הגזים באושוויץ. במפגשים נתחקה אחר הביוגרפיה של ישו, כפי שהיא מופיעה בברית החדשה, וננסה להתחקות אחר הארכיאולוגיה של המאה הראשונה לספירה, להבין את עולמו הרוחני והתרבותי של ישו, ולראות כיצד בחור צנוע מכפר קטן שינה את ההיסטוריה העולמית והוא לא ידע שהוא כזה

This is a 7 lecture summer series that will occur primary on Monday evenings at 8PM EST unless otherwise noted due to scheduling conflicts.

ABOUT DR. ILAN ABECASSIS

Ilan Abecassis lives in Israel and has been immersing himself in the wonders of the Bible since his days in high school. Ilan is a Biblical and Ancient Near East historian, a writer, a lecturer, a podcaster and (soon to be) a licensed tour guide.

Ilan holds a B.A. in Archaeology and Biblical Studies and a M.A. in Biblical studies from the Hebrew university of Jerusalem (Thesis: “Mercenaries in Israel in Biblical Times”). In addition, he earned his Ph.D. in Biblical Studies and ancient Near East from Ben-Gurion University in Beer Sheba (Dissertation: “Political Assassination in Ancient Near East”).

Ilan wrote two books: “The Deputy of Bar Kochva - Number Two in History” and “Political Assassinations in the Bible and Ancient Near East”.  His third book titled  “The counsel of Ahithophel: the debates in the Bible” is about to be published.
